Cybersecurity Agency Warns of Rising Mobile Money Fraud Schemes
Officials report a sharp increase in SIM-swap and social engineering scams targeting mobile money users this quarter.
Uganda's national cybersecurity agency has issued a public warning over a rise in mobile money fraud schemes, particularly SIM-swap attacks and social engineering scams targeting unsuspecting users.
The agency reported a 30 percent increase in reported incidents this quarter compared to the same period last year.
"Never share your PIN or one-time codes with anyone, including people claiming to be from your telecom provider," the agency said in its advisory.
Telecom operators say they are working with law enforcement to strengthen verification procedures for SIM replacement requests.
