Local Innovators Unveil Solar-Powered Irrigation Kit for Smallholder Farmers

A Kampala-based agri-tech startup has unveiled a solar-powered irrigation kit designed specifically for smallholder farmers, aiming to reduce reliance on costly diesel pumps.
The kit, which pairs a compact solar panel with a drip irrigation system, is priced to be accessible to farmers working plots of one to five acres.
"We built this for farmers who've been priced out of irrigation technology. It should pay for itself within two growing seasons," said the startup's founder.
Pilot programmes are currently underway in three districts, with plans to scale nationally next year pending additional funding.
