MTN, Airtel Roll Out Expanded 5G Coverage in Kampala
Both telecoms say new coverage will extend to major business districts and university campuses by year end.
Uganda's two largest telecom operators, MTN and Airtel, have announced expanded 5G network coverage across Kampala, with rollout extending to key business districts and university campuses by the end of the year.
Both companies say the expansion is aimed at supporting growing demand for high-speed data among businesses and students, as well as positioning Uganda competitively within the region's digital economy.
"5G is not just about faster browsing, it's about enabling new services in areas like telemedicine and remote learning," an MTN Uganda executive said.
Coverage outside the capital remains limited, with operators citing infrastructure costs as the main barrier to nationwide rollout.
