Study Links Improved Sanitation to Drop in Child Mortality

A new study conducted across 40 districts has found a strong link between improved sanitation infrastructure and declining under-five mortality rates in Uganda.

Researchers found that districts with expanded access to clean water and improved latrines saw child mortality rates fall nearly twice as fast as those without such investments.

"This confirms what public health experts have long argued: sanitation is health infrastructure," said the study's lead author.

The findings are expected to inform the next phase of the government's rural water and sanitation programme.
