Ministry of Health Launches Nationwide Malaria Vaccination Drive
The rollout targets children under five in 87 districts, building on a successful pilot programme launched two years ago.
The Ministry of Health has launched a nationwide rollout of the malaria vaccine, expanding a pilot programme that began in select districts two years ago to cover children under five across all 87 target districts.
Health Minister Dr Jane Ruth Aceng said the vaccine, used alongside bed nets and indoor spraying, is expected to significantly reduce severe malaria cases among young children.
"Malaria remains one of the leading causes of death among children under five in Uganda. This vaccine is a critical additional tool, not a replacement for existing prevention methods," she said.
The ministry says over 2 million doses have been secured for this phase of the campaign, with support from international health partners.
