New Mulago Cancer Wing Opens, Boosting Treatment Capacity
The expanded oncology unit adds 120 beds and new radiotherapy equipment, cutting wait times for cancer patients.
A new cancer treatment wing at Mulago National Referral Hospital officially opened this week, adding 120 beds and two new radiotherapy machines to the country's cancer care capacity.
The expansion is expected to significantly reduce waiting times at the Uganda Cancer Institute, which has struggled with high patient volumes relative to available equipment.
"This is one of the most significant investments in cancer care Uganda has made in a decade," said a hospital administrator at the opening ceremony.
Officials say a further expansion focused on pediatric oncology is planned for next year.
