World Leaders Gather for Climate Talks as Emission Targets Slip
New data shows most G20 economies are falling behind their 2030 emissions pledges, raising pressure ahead of this year's climate summit.
Delegates from nearly 190 countries are gathering this week for the latest round of UN climate talks, amid fresh data showing most major economies are off track to meet their 2030 emissions targets.
African negotiators, including Uganda's delegation, are expected to press wealthier nations on long-promised climate adaptation financing, which has consistently fallen short of pledged amounts.
"Communities here are already living with the impact of erratic rainfall and prolonged droughts. The financing gap is not abstract to us," said a member of Uganda's negotiating team.
A final agreement on new financing commitments is expected before the summit closes next week.
