Senior trade officials from the United States and China resumed negotiations in Geneva this week, aiming to defuse tensions that have unsettled global markets for much of the year.
Analysts say the talks are focused on tariff schedules and export controls on semiconductor technology, issues that have had ripple effects on supply chains worldwide, including commodity exporters in Africa.
"Any de-escalation would be welcome news for emerging markets that have felt the knock-on effects of this trade dispute," said one Kampala-based economic analyst.
No joint statement had been issued as of Thursday, though both sides described the discussions as "constructive."
