Chefs say the shift is driven both by demand for fresher ingredients and a desire to support smallholder farmers directly rather than relying solely on wholesale markets.
"When you know exactly which farm your vegetables came from that morning, it changes how you cook," said one Kampala-based chef leading the trend.
The movement has also spurred a handful of new weekend farmers' markets popping up around the city.
