KAMPALA METROPOLITAN POLICE ARRESTS OVER 300 SUSPECTS IN CRACKDOWN ON CRIMINAL GANGS AHEAD OF FESTIVE SEASON

As the festive season approaches, Kampala Metropolitan Police has intensified its efforts to combat crime and enhance public safety through a series of intelligence-led and joint security operations conducted across the Kampala Metropolitan Area on October 28, 29 and 30, 2026.

The coordinated operations, conducted in collaboration with other security agencies, resulted in the arrest of more than 300 suspects and the recovery of several exhibits believed to be connected to criminal activities.

The operations were carried out across several policing divisions, including Katwe, Central Police Station (CPS) Kampala, Kabalagala, Wandegeya, Kira and Jinja Road, among others, targeting identified crime-prone areas and suspected criminal hideouts.

The crackdown primarily targeted suspected criminal elements, particularly individuals allegedly involved in drug and substance abuse, as well as other activities associated with criminal gangs and networks.

All the arrested suspects are currently in police custody as investigations continue. They will undergo the screening police procedures before being processed and presented before court in accordance with the law.

During the operations, security personnel also recovered several exhibits suspected to be linked to various criminal activities. These will form part of the ongoing investigations.

Kampala Metropolitan Police, working together with other security agencies, remains committed to dismantling criminal gangs, disrupting criminal networks and preventing criminal activities across the metropolitan area.

The public is urged to remain vigilant, cooperate with security agencies and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.

We remain committed to ensuring the safety and security of all residents and visitors.
